Overview

The I-Z382 mutation occurred roughly 3,300 years ago, during the Nordic Bronze Age. Analysis of the geographic distribution of DNA samples, both modern and ancient, suggests that the Z382 mutation likely occurred in or around modern-day Skane, Sweden.

Z382 is a subclade of the major haplogroup I-M253 (also known as I1). Z382's SNP path from I-M253 goes as follows:

I-M253 > DF29 > Z58 > Z59 > Z2041 > Z2040 > Z382

Z382's parent SNP is Z2040; the Z2040 mutation occurred roughly 3,400 years ago.

Z382 has two sibling SNPS, L1450 and FT122517. L1450 has a modern-day geographic distribution that includes Bulgaria, Macedonia and Greece, as well as aDNA samples in Anglo-Saxon England.

The Z382 mutation represents a SNP-block that includes three SNP mutations, these are Z382, FGC24330, Z2037; this means that it has two phyloequivalent SNPs that could be broken up by future DNA testers.

People that descend from Z382 have origins in the following countries: England, Sweden, Germany, Scotland, Russia, Ireland, Denmark, Netherlands, Norway, Belgium, France, Finland, Wales, Poland, Italy, Ukraine, Hungary, Czech Republic.

The Z382 diaspora includes known Danish Viking movements to the west and Swedish Viking movements to the east. One branch of Y3643 has been confirmed to have participated in what appears to possibly be earlier Ostrogothic movements. It's likely that Z382 has also participated in other historical migrations; more research will be needed to confirm or deny this possibility.
